Reykjavik
You’ve heard about it, you’ve dreamed about it, and now you’re actually doing it! Welcome to Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city, home to over 60% of the Icelandic population and the start to your 100% fun-and-adventure loaded journey. Reykjavík is just as popular with locals as tourists. Located in the south-west of Iceland, Reykjavík means Smoky-bay. It’s believed to be the first settlement in Iceland and has a reputation for being one of the greenest, cleanest and safest cities in the world. It is a fascinating city full of quirk, with lots of cosmopolitan things to do, like visiting museums, having cocktails in a cozy bar, and enjoying many great dining options. So, don’t misspend time unpacking and settling into your hotel and head out to explore the buzzing capital city of Iceland today. Let your curated travel experiences in Iceland begin!
Borgarfjörður – Ice Cave
If you are self driving, your tour guide will give a quick briefing about handling the basics of the powerful 4×4 modified trucks that will be your home for the next few days. Or Else, sit back and start your Icelandic journey westwards from Reykjavík to Borgarfjörður and up to Hotel Húsafell for lunch before driving up to Langjokull, the second largest glacier of Europe. Step into a man-made ice cave in Langjokull glacier. A customized all-terrain truck will take you to the entrance of the ice tunnels. The vistas on this drive are magnificent, the landscapes unfolding beneath you stunning, and the continuous surface of the glacier so barren and beautiful that it seems otherworldly. After witnessing the magical world inside of a glacier, jump back in the truck for a return journey to Húsafell.
Golden Circle
This is going to be one of the most (perhaps the most) unique trips you will ever do. Today, you are going to explore The Golden Circle, a very popular route in southern Iceland, covering about 300 kilometres looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. You will start your day by going into the Icelandic wild and visit Iceland’s most intriguing natural landmarks. From the historic Thingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient Viking Parliament and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the erupting geothermal geysers of Haukadalur, this day will take your breath away. You will also head towards the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall cascading down in the Hvítá River originating in the Langjökull glacier, before driving all the way to Langjökull glacier for the exhilarating and adrenalin pumping snowmobile experience that is going to one of the most thrilling and memorable experiences of your life!
Landmannalaugar
After a hearty breakfast, start your day with a drive through the beautiful Þjórsárdalur valley with a photo stop at Gjáin and at Háifoss waterfall, the second highest waterfall of the island that drops from a height of 122 metres. Ooh, imagine the cool breeze and water jets touching you! From Þjórsárdalur, drive straight up to the mountains. This is the ultimate 4X4 experience, deserted tracks in combination with a stunning ruggedness of the surroundings will result in an unforgettable experience. Continue your drive to Landmannalaugar and to its rustic mountain hut at the borders of a warm river. After relaxing and enjoying a bath in the natural hot spring, enjoy a cozy evening in the mountain hut located in the middle of nowhere. If you are in luck, you might get to witness the magical Northern lights dancing over your head.
South Coast – Reykjavik
Adventure lovers, how about waking up in the middle of nowhere and start driving back on the snow-covered tracks! On the second day of your Iceland customized holiday package, head towards the astonishing south coast of Iceland with its littoral plains of infinite platitude surrounded by green mountains. The black sand beaches of Vik and their lunar appearance brutally contrast with uneven relief foreseeing the vast deserts of the highlands. Continue your drive through the Hellisheidi land towards Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. Your next destination will be the black lava sand beaches, where you can admire the beauty and power of the North Atlantic Ocean right in front of you. The black sand comes from an enormous volcanic eruption that produced one of the most crucial lava flows of the last centuries. Return to Reykjavik passing by the impressive Solheimajökull glacier and Hellisheidi plateau.
Blue Lagoon
Today, your Iceland custom tour is in its sixth gear, where you will have one last piece of the Icelandic landscape to admire before flying back home as you head towards The Blue Lagoon, one of the most popular destinations in Iceland. An outdoor spa located just outside of Grindavík, Blue Lagoon will provide you the much needed relaxation and rejuvenation after roughing it out on the road over the last few days. From the mineral-rich brackish water to the exfoliating mud, this spa offers rejuvenating treatments in ways that you could never imagine. The beauty of the Blue Lagoon will warm you, soothe you, and leave you positively lost for words. A dip in the insanely beautiful geothermal waters of Blue Lagoon is also said to be good for health. Test it for yourself as you don your swimsuit and submerge into the bright azure steaming pools.
