Today, your Iceland trip starts with you heading to explore The Golden Circle, a very popular route in southern Iceland, covering about 300 kilometres looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. Collect your rental car in the morning and your trip planner will take you a guided tour to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the great Geysir geothermal area where the powerful geyser Strokkur erupts every few minutes and have a look at the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. In the afternoon you can take an optional dip in the warm waters of the Secret Lagoon and dine inside a greenhouse at Friðheimar restaurants. Top off your day with a visit to the volcanic crater Kerið which is 270 meters wide and 55 meters deep. You will find your luxury accommodation for the night in the Golden Circle area.
By now, your Iceland custom tour package trip is in its third gear, but trust us when we say that your Iceland trip has just begin. Explore the South Coast of Iceland, known for its plethora of beautiful sights. There is an (optional) visit to the LAVA Centre in Hvolsvöllur where you can learn more about the volcanos in this area. Afterwards, visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfall, at the latter you can also visit the Skógar Folk museum and view reconstructed Icelandic turf houses. Here, you can also enjoy optional activities such as a snowmobile or ATV tour. In the afternoon, make your way to the Dyrhólaey stone arch, home to thousands of seabirds during the summer months. Enjoy a stroll on the Reynisfjara black sand beach with views to the Reynisdrangar rock pinnacles before checking into your hotel for the night in the Vík/Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.
Enjoy your breakfast and head towards the Skaftafell National Park where you can have a look at the stunning Vatnajökull, the second largest glacier in Europe and one of the most significant destinations in our Iceland customized holiday packages tour. Situation on the south-east of the island, the glacier covers approximately 8% of the country! It’s possible to go on a guided glacier walk where you can see the different shades of the glacier – white ice, blue ice, and plain clear ice. You can go for a short but interesting hike to the beautiful waterfall Svartifoss waterfall. In the afternoon, visit the Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon and also the more famous glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón where icebergs slowly float around. Here you can enjoy an optional boat tour or a kayak tour on the lagoon. Continue to the area of Höfn where you will stay for the night.
Today, you will have the opportunity to explore the wonderful East Fjords of Iceland. This is one of the least-visited region of Iceland as many visitors prefer to bypass the beautiful fjords on their way to North Iceland. But our Iceland custom tours team go the extra mile to make sure you don’t bypass nature’s beauty in any way! You can opt for a shortcut to the town of Egilsstaðir by driving over Mt. Öxi, but we highly recommend driving along the fjords and exploring highlights such as Petra’s Stone Collection in Stöðvarfjörður, discovering some French charm in the village of Fáskrúðsfjörður and visiting the colourful village of Eskifjörður. Enjoy your day out in the country and make random stops to soak in the beauty of the Icelandic countryside. Spend the night in a boutique hotel in the Egilsstaðir area.
Continue from Egilstaðir towards the stunning region around Lake Mývatn, a volcanic lake in northern Iceland. This area has a high amount of biological activity. It is also home to some incredible geological features, a wealth of flora and fauna, and it is surrounded by many unbelievable sites. You will have the opportunity to explore numerous natural wonders including Dettifoss waterfall, Námaskarð pass which is home to boiling mud pools and colorful mountains, Krafla volcano with the interesting crater Víti, Dimmuborgir Lava Park and the pseudo-craters at Skútustaðir. In the evening, we recommend a relaxing bath in the Mývatn Nature Bath. Only one very small town can be found in the Lake Mývatn area, called Reykjahlíð where we will make arrangements for you to spend the night.
Wake up and head towards Godafoss, nicknamed as “the waterfall of the Gods”, one of the most awaited destinations in your personalized itineraries of Iceland. Some believe that the name comes from the fact that the waterfall is god-like in beauty. After taking enough pictures at the waterfall, continue towards the Akureyri city, nicknamed the “Capital of North Iceland”. There is free time to walk around the charming Akureyri town, the second largest city of Iceland with a small population of around 20,000 people. Visit the beautiful Botanical Gardens and have a look at the church overlooking the town. It is possible to join a horseback riding tour or a whale watching boat tour. The Laufás turf houses in Eyjafjörður are also a must visit while traveling in North-Iceland. Continue towards Sauðarkrokkur for a night halt.
Today you will start your return journey to Reykjavik. On the way back, you will get a chance to visit the natural highlights in the West of Iceland. Visit the Grábrók volcanic crater and the Icelandic Settlement Centre in Borgarnes. Head to the Borgarfjörður district to see Deildartunguhver hot spring, the largest hot spring in Europe, and visit the beautiful waterfalls Barnafossar and Hraunfossar. In the afternoon, step into a man-made ice cave in Langjokull glacier. A customized all-terrain truck will take you to the entrance of the ice tunnels. The vistas on this drive are magnificent, the landscapes unfolding beneath you stunning, and the continuous surface of the glacier so barren and beautiful that it seems otherworldly. After witnessing the magical world inside of a glacier, return to Reykjavik, drop-off your rental car and enjoy your last night in Reykjavik.
It is time to say goodbye to Iceland and start your Greenland trip and wonder at the many picturesque locations in your personalized itinerary of Greenland. Take a morning flight from Reykjavik to Ilulissat located on the west coast of Greenland. This charming arctic village is situated at the mouth of the UNESCO listed Ilulissat Icefjord and on a clear day you will have a wonderful bird’s eye view over the ice cap from the plane. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the surroundings. Despite being the third largest town in Greenland, Ilulissat is small enough to walk around and hilly enough to offer impressive views wherever you go. Take a guided city walk through Ilulissat in the afternoon and get an introduction about the Greenlandic culture and the history of the city.
Today is going to be a memorable day of your Greenland customized holiday package as you will come face to face with the magnificent Ilulissat Icefjord. Located 250 km north of the Arctic Circle, the Ilulissat Icefjord runs west 40 km from the Greenland ice sheet to Disko Bay just south of Ilulissat town. An endless amount of ice pushing down from the glacier Sermeq Kujalleq towards the sea, where ice is calving constantly creates majestic icebergs floating in the Disko Bay. Here, at the Ilulissat Icefjord World Heritage Site, you can also stop at Sermermiut, an abandoned Inuit settlement, which was inhabited by Saqqaq, Early Dorset and Thule cultures. Your guide will take you deep into the historic world of the Inuit culture and tell you fascinating stories about this remote part of the world.
Today, experience the beauty of Greenlandic Icebergs from a different perspective as you head out by boat into Disko Bay and come close to the gigantic floating icebergs, something you have been looking forward to as a part of your Greenland custom tours package. As you start getting closer, not only will you see the wide variety of glaciers in different shapes and sizes, you will also hear the sound of a calving glacier which is an amazing natural experience. Your guide will give you an insight into how these glaciers are formed and tell you that these frozen giants have calved from the most productive glacier of the Northern Hemisphere, the Sermeq Kujalleq. It annually calves 35 km³ of ice into the UNESCO Icefjord – a sheer unimaginable amount. If you are lucky, you might even spot a whale or two!
