Namibia

Trip Overview

What would you like to do, drive for hours under huge blue skies without a sight of another car or be surrounded by landscapes so vast and spread out that at times you feel like you’re on the edge of the planet or ride through the world’s highest dunes? Oh, we hear that you want to do it all at once. “Is it possible?”, you ask. Now, hold that smile as we tell you more about this curated travel experience. Say hello to Namibia! From swirling desert sands and national parks to mountains and famous desert dunes, our Namibia trip is packed with some of the world’s best jaw dropping moments. This is particularly apparent in the far north in the wonderfully remote Damaraland. In Etosha National Park, the dry climate and harsh landscapes are punctuated by waterholes where wildlife gathers to quench their thirst. The famed desert dunes at Sossusvlei are perhaps the most photographed landscapes on the continent. And the eerie Skeleton Coast is simply bizarre with its desert hinterland, rolling fogs, and beautiful coastline.

Itinerary

Day 1

Windhoek

Your Namibia trip’s curated travel experience begins with your arrival at the Windhoek International Airport where you will meet our trip planner and will be transported to your hotel. Surrounded by the stubble covered, Auas Mountains and the endless Khomas Hochland, Windhoek lies in a long valley fed by ancient hot springs in the central highlands of Namibia. In Windhoek, there are many interesting historical buildings, museums, galleries and craft shops. The city has several good restaurants and modern shops and services making it an excellent base camp from which to launch your Namibian adventure. In Windhoek, you can spend the day visiting several famous museums, galleries, theatres, and gardens. You can ask at the reception desk to assist with booking dinner at one of the many restaurants in town or at the in-house restaurant.

Day 2

Windhoek – Sossusvlei

Today, you will start this unique trip journeying towards south from Windhoek to Sossusvlei. Situated in the largest conservation area in Africa (the Namib-Naukluft National Park), Sossusvlei is possibly Namibia’s most spectacular and best-known attraction for an amazing holiday. Characterised by the large red dunes that surround it, Sossusvlei is a large, white, salt and clay pan and is a great destination all year round. The dunes in this area are some of the highest in the world, reaching almost 400 meters; they provide photographic enthusiasts with wonderful images in the beautiful morning and evening light. After reaching your hotel, you are free to enjoy the rest of the day relaxing with nature as tomorrow would bring you yet another day full of adventures.

Day 3

Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is one of the most spectacular sights in Namibia with red sand dunes rising 300m into the air. You will start early and stop at various points where your tour guide will share interesting insights about the history, landscape, flora, and fauna including spider tracks like Dancing White Lady. Explore various stops on the way to Deadvlei and try climbing on “Big Daddy Dune” or “Big Mamma” with panoramic photo stops. Travel to “Elim Dune” for a generous picnic lunch under one of the majestic Camel Thorn Trees. (We provide an elegant set up with table, chairs, table cloth, cutlery, wine cooler, glasses, hand wash basin, freshly prepared food and various beverages like wine, beer, soft drinks and water. With us, you eat your meals like a king!). Then head to Sesriem Canyon as your final stop.

Day 4

Sossusvlei – Swakopmund

Day 4 of your Namibia custom tour package starts with a hearty breakfast. Post breakfast, head north to Solitaire, then west crossing the Tropic of Capricorn through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons via the Namib Gravel Plains to the Skeleton Coast. The Namibian coastline is generally known as The Skeleton Coast due to the barren areas, ship wrecks and, in days gone by, whale skeletons left on the beach. Arriving at the luxurious and centrally located Strand Hotel, you will be able to ask them to assist with booking dinner at one of their restaurants or at one of the restaurants in town. Lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at any of the great cafés or restaurants. Enjoy the evening strolling around the idyllic town of Swakopmund. Sounds like a plan!

Day 5

Swakopmund and Walvis Bay sightseeing

Our Namibia customized holiday packages are planned and designed in a way that you never lose that vibe of hospitality and friendliness we create around you even if you are surrounded by the inhospitable – but bounteous – Atlantic Ocean. After visiting the ancient Namib desert, head to the towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, which are alive with activity and adventure. Both towns offer a lot of adventure trails to the adventure-seeker: quad-biking, sand-boarding, duneboarding, horse-riding, mountain biking, skydiving, surfing, surf and offshore fishing, dolphin cruises and diving. Swakopmund has an astonishing array of restaurants that serve mainly seafood, steak, and many German staples. On a coastline, almost 1600km long, Walvis Bay has many attractions. One of them is its massive populations of seabirds and shorebirds hovering and buzzing on a vast lagoon and south of the town at Sandwich Bay.

Day 6

Swakopmund – Damaraland

An early morning start is recommended towards Damaraland where enormous granite outcrops and dolerite dykes have been carved by ice, wind, and rain over eons. Grassy plains, tree-studded riverbeds, and endless open skies add to the grandeur and make this area one of the most scenic in Namibia. Be sure to look out for the small settlement Wlotzkasbaken roughly 30 kilometers from Swakopmund and the shipwrecks along the way, as you travel along the Skeleton Coast via Henties Bay to Cape Cross to see the largest breeding cape fur seal colony in the world. Stop at Cape Cross for lunch or a snack and then continue inland towards your hotel. Enjoy an evening under the stunning Namibian sky where you will be able to witness millions of stars as there is no light pollution here.

375 KM 07 HOURS
Day 7

Damaraland

Start exploring Damaraland with a visit to the Vingerklip rock, situated very close to the lodge. You have a full day available to visit Namibia’s Open Air Museum, the Twyfelfontein Rock Engravings as well as the interesting Organ Pipes rock formations and Burnt Mountain. Then drive west to the Huab River to spot desert adapted elephants as well as other animals and birds like oryx, springbok, ostrich and lots more. Please note that the Twyfelfontein is farther away and an early start is required. Wildlife is not a feature but you may well see desert-adapted elephant and some of the Damaraland locals: gemsbok, kudu, Hartman’s mountain zebra and, if you’re lucky, the world’s last free-ranging black rhino!

Day 8

Damaraland – Etosha South

Post breakfast, you will be proceeding towards Etosha National Park. The plan is to stay two nights on the south of park and one night on the east to be able to cover the maximum area. Etosha National Park is unique in Africa. The park’s main characteristic is a salt pan so large it can be seen from space. Yet there is abundant wildlife that congregates around the waterholes, giving you almost guaranteed game sightings. At the same time, Etosha National Park is one of the most accessible game reserves in Namibia and Southern Africa. Upon arrival at your hotel, spend the rest of the day relaxing or alternatively you can ask at the reception desk of the hotel for optional activities that are offered.

335 KM 05 HOURS
Day 9

Etosha South Game Drive

The Etosha gates open and close at sunrise and sunset. Today, you have a full day for game drive in the Etosha National Park. Etosha is one of the few places, maybe the only place, where some of the best game viewing would be during the heat of the day when animals congregate in hundreds at the waterholes to drink. As vegetation in most areas is sparse, the animals have learnt to drink during the day when predators are inactive and it is the safest time to be out in the open. It is not uncommon to see up to 7 different species of game at any waterhole. After spending the entire day in the wilderness, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10

Etosha South – Game Drive – Etosha East

A new day starts with new scope of adventure. Today is a full day game drive again as you drive slowly east through the Etosha Park stopping at numerous waterholes along the way. Wildlife you are likely to see, at close quarters if you spend some time at the waterholes, includes a growing number of rhino – both black and white – and the endemic black-faced impala and Damara dik-dik. The Namibian trademarks, gemsbok and springbok, are common and there are good numbers of southern Africa’s big game including elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, brown and spotted hyena, eland, roan, kudu, wildebeest, red hartebeest, Hartman’s mountain (only in the west) and Burchell’s plains zebra, and blackbacked jackal. Exit from the eastern gate in the evening, check-into your hotel and relax for rest of the day.

Day 11

Etosha East – Windhoek

Today you will be heading back to Windhoek, travelling via Tsumeb and then driving south across Otavi, Otjiwarongo and Okahandja. It is going to be a long drive but you will find yourself driving on the silky tarmac highway on your way to Windhoek. As you leave the wilderness of Etosha National Park behind and head in the direction of Windhoek, you will slowly be transported back from a world of wilderness into civilization. Enjoy the last day in Namibia and arrive in Windhoek by evening. Check into the hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying a sundowner. If time permits, you may choose to visit some shops for last minute souvenir shopping.

500 KM 07 HOURS
Day 12

Departure

Post breakfast, head to the airport to board your return flight. After being thoroughly astounded and enthralled by the irresistible beauty of Namibia, rest assured, you will carry a bit of Africa in your heart and lots of inspiration to come back again for yet another adventure in the wild! And don’t blame us if this trip transforms you from a tourist to a traveler for life!
