Itinerary
Tashkent
After landing in Tashkent Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. Tashkent is one of the oldest and largest cities in Central Asia and the Uzbek capital since 1930. This elegant city is an amalgamation of medieval oriental architecture and modern skyscrapers and that’s why it is an important part of our Uzbekistan customized holiday package trip. After lunch, you will get to explore the capital by going back in time as you visit the old town of Barak Khan Seminary and Tillya Sheikh Mosque. Later, head to Chorsu bazaar, the oldest market in Tashkent and Kukeldash Madrassah followed by a bus tour of the city and visit Mustakillik Square (Independence square), Amir Temur square and Alisher Navoiy Theater square. After a day spent getting introduced to Uzbekistan, return to your hotel by evening.
Tashkent – Bukhara
Today, as a part of your Uzbekistan custom tour package, you will take the early morning bullet train to Bukhara and start exploring the city by afternoon. This incredible city, one of the most famous names of medieval Islam, is home to hundreds of registered monuments. Look around and you will see monuments literally everywhere! In today’s tour, you will visit some of the main highlights of the city but also explore some lesser-known sights like Lyabi Khauz Ensemble – modern center of traditional Uzbekistan, Madrassah of Nadirkhon Devanbegi, Khanaga, Mogaki Attari mosque, Poi Kalon minaret and mosque. You will also visit Hunarmand UNDP Assisted workshops near Lyabi Khauz. You will also get a chance to observe block printing, metal chasing, suzani embroidery, carving and miniature painting. After a long day of sightseeing, head back to the hotel for a leisurely evening.
Bukhara
Bukhara is also situated on the Silk Route and is more than 2,000 years old. It is the perfect example of a medieval city in Central Asia with an urban fabric that has remained largely intact. You can spend days exploring the monuments and the architecture in and around the city and you will still not be able to see it all! After breakfast, continue your sightseeing of Bukhara with an out-of-town excursion to visit the Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa, the summer residence of the former emir of Bukhara where you will notice a unique mixture of traditional Russian style of architecture with local traditions. The famous thrown white hall decorated with carved alabaster resembles the halls in Peterhof Palace of St. Petersburg. Post lunch, visit Ark Fortress, Bala Khauz mosque, mausoleum of Ismail Samanid & Chashma Ayub.
Bukhara – Shahrisabz – Samarkand
Today, you will take the road to Samarkand via Shahrisabz – the birthplace and hometown of Central Asia’s foremost conqueror – the Great Amir Timur. The road to Shahrisabz goes through the picturesque mountain pass Tahtakaracha (2100m), worth adding to your list of personalized itineraries of Uzbekistan. You will make several photo stops en route to take breath-taking pictures of the beautiful landscapes. This day will also give you an opportunity to experience the Uzbek countryside so feel free to make random stops at road side cafes, interact with the locals and taste the exotic and mouth-watering street food of Uzbekistan. Once you reach Shahrisabz, explore the town at your own pace and visit Ak Saray Palace, Dorustilavat seminary and Kuk Gumbos mosque. Have lunch at a local restaurant and continue your drive towards Samarkand.
Samarkand
No name is as evocative of the Silk Road as Samarkand. It is one of the oldest existing cities in the world and the oldest in entire Central Asia. Built on the site of Afrosiab, which dated from the 3rd or 4th millennium B.C., Samarkand was known to the ancient Greeks as Marakanda. You will visit the famous Registan Square which was the heart of Samarkand for many centuries. One of the most symbolic landmarks of Uzbekistan, Registan Square draws millions of travellers each year who are left mesmerized at the beauty and grandeur of its’ architecture. You will get to see the three beautiful madrassahs in the square and also visit Gur Emir – mausoleum of Great Tamerlane and later see the grandest structure of Amir Timur’s times – the chief Friday Mosque called Bibi-Khanum.
Samarkand – Tashkent
Continue to explore Samarkand and visit Ulugbek’s observatory constructed by Ulugbek (Grandson of the Great Amir Timur) in 1428-1429. Visit the ancient settlement of Afrosiab which is situated on the spurs of Chupan-Ata hills to the north-east of present-day Samarkand. According to legend, it was here, on the banks of the river Siab, that the Turanian King and hero Afrosiab, a character of the folk epic ‘Shahnama’, founded the town that became the capital of Sogdiana. After spending enough time listening to the folklores and exploring Afrosiab, you will head towards the Konigil village and visit a paper-making workshop. In the evening, catch the bullet train to Tashkent. You will arrive in the evening and after checking into your hotel, you can decide to head out for a fun evening and watch a local cultural performance with dinner.
Tashkent – Kokand – Rishton – Fergana
Post breakfast, drive to Fergana via Kokand. On your way, visit Khudayar Khan Palace, Jami Mosque Museum and Narbutabey Madrassah. Later, continue to Rishton town which is a center of unique ceramic production in Uzbkekistan. Rishton is known today as the city of the foremen, one of the largest in Central Asia centers of manufacture of unique glazed ceramic. You will also visit the creative workshop of Rustam Usmano. The mastery of his beautiful paintings and the richness of their pattern themes give a unique, hard-to-reproduce character to each of his works. Here, you will have an opportunity to see the master class of ceramic production and to create some pieces on your own. Upon reaching Fergana, check – in for an overnight stay at the hotel.
Fergana – Margilan – Andijan – Tashkent
After breakfast, you will hit the road and head towards Margilan, a city located in the Fergana region in eastern Uzbekistan and famous for its wonderful and fine silks. You will visit a workshop where original handmade methods of silk Ikat production are still used. “Ikat” refers to the dyeing technique used to create the designs on the fabric. Visit a vivid, chaotic local market in Margilan and grab some delicious lunch before continuing towards Andijan. The city is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire and the first emperor of the Mughal Dynasty in India. You will visit Babur park and museum where you learn about the history and life of the Great Babur after which you will take the train back to Tashkent.
