Uttarakhand Self Drive - Road Trip

Trip Overview

Uttarakhand, popularly known as the “The Land of Gods”, is nestled in the lap of the Himalayas. One of the most beautiful northern states of India, it is one of mother nature’s finest creations. Charming hill stations, snow-capped peaks, quaint villages along winding mountain roads, serpentine rivers carving their way through the hills, wildlife parks like ‘Jim Corbett Tiger National Park’, cascading waterfalls hurtling down slopes and serene lakes shimmering amidst beautiful towns – Uttarakhand leaves an everlasting mark on even the most seasoned travellers from around the world. On this rare road trip through the pristine mountain landscapes of Uttarakhand, you will take a holy dip in the Ganges, go for river rafting in Rishikesh, experience wildlife safari in Jim Corbett National Park and get enough time to reflect in solitude as we travel through resorts, quaint villages and hill stations of Auli, Kausani, Binsar and Nainital.

Faq’s

Popular destinations for a road trip in Uttarakhand include Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Auli, Jim Corbett National Park, Valley of Flowers, and the scenic drive to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The best time for a road trip in Uttarakhand is generally during the summer months (April to June) and the post-monsoon period (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and the roads are accessible.

Uttarakhand has a well-developed road network, especially in popular tourist areas.

Consider taking the route from Rishikesh to Devprayag, where the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi converge to form the Ganges. The road from Chopta to Tungnath offers stunning views of the Himalayas.

Foreign travelers do not need special permits to drive in Uttarakhand. However, you’ll need a valid passport with an Indian visa, international driving permit (IDP), vehicle registration documents, and valid insurance for your vehicle.

Many areas in Uttarakhand are at high altitudes, which can affect drivers not accustomed to such conditions. It’s essential to acclimatize gradually, stay hydrated, and avoid overexertion.

Always wear seat belts, drive defensively, and be aware of local road conditions and hazards. Carry a basic emergency kit, including a first aid kit, flashlight, and emergency contact information.

Once you book your seat with Adventures Overland, we will take care of your luxury hotel accommodation.
