Itinerary

Upon Arrival at Lhasa airport, you will be whisked away to your designated accommodations, where the rest of the group awaits.

At an altitude of 11,990 ft, perched on the Tibetan Plateau, Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. The sudden change from plains to high altitude demands that we take it slow and give ourselves time to adjust to our new surroundings.

In the evening, we will enjoy a welcome dinner, savoring local dishes and getting to know one another. With hearts full of anticipation, we will then retire for the night, eager for the adventures that await us on the open road.

Lhasa City

Today is all about slowing down and soaking in the vibrant energy of Lhasa while allowing our bodies to acclimatize to the altitude.

It’s also a day to prepare ourselves for the journey, with all the necessary documents and licenses being finalized for a smooth drive ahead.

This easy pace allows us to recharge, ensuring we’re ready and excited for our Lhasa road trip.

Baghor Street, Jokhang Temple

Today we embark on a sightseeing tour of Lhasa and our first stop is the magnificent Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama.

Perched atop a hill overlooking the city, the palace is a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. Then we make our way to the nearby Jokhang Temple where you will encounter the sacred Jowo Shakyamuni statue, believed to be the holiest object in Tibetan Buddhism.

Afterwards, we will visit Barkhor Street, a vibrant marketplace with shops selling everything from prayer flags, and incense to handicrafts.

In the evening, we will collect our vehicles to officially start our Lhasa road trip tomorrow.

Lhasa Gonggar Airport , Tibet

Today is the first driving day of this incredible journey that promises unparalleled adventure as we set out on a long drive from Lhasa to Shigatse, a bustling city in Tibet known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning monasteries.

The ever-changing landscape will keep you captivated, from the towering peaks of the Himalayas to the vast expanses of the Tibetan Plateau.

En route, we will visit the Yamdrok Lake, one of the largest sacred lakes in the region. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers surreal views that you can soak in, for a few peaceful moments before getting back on the road.

We will continue driving through the breathtaking scenery, passing through quaint villages and rural settlements along the way.

As we approach Shigatse, the landscape changes once again, giving way to sprawling plains and fertile valleys. The city comes into view, its ancient monasteries and majestic palaces standing as testaments to Tibet's rich cultural heritage. Finally, we arrive in Shigatse and check into our accommodations for an overnight stay.

Adventures Overland Convoy by the Sayram Lake

As we set our sights on Tingri and hit the road once again, we will find ourselves surrounded by majestic mountains and endless open roads. The open road stretches out before us, inviting us to embrace the freedom of the journey. With each passing mile, the rugged beauty of the Himalayas will leave you spellbound and the mighty Mt.Everest occasionally peeking from the clouds will beckon you closer.

On top of that, the dramatic skies, the cool mountain breeze, and the rolling convoy make this particular stretch of our Lhasa road trip all the more worth it. Upon reaching Tingri County, we will rest and recharge after a long day of driving.

Sayram Lake, Xinjiang

Today is a day filled with anticipation as we embark on a memorable journey to Everest Base Camp (EBC), the gateway to the world’s highest peak, Mount Qomolangma (Mount Everest) by boarding a tour bus.

The sheer magnitude of the Himalayas is overwhelming, to say the least, and not everyone is lucky enough to experience it all in their lifetime. It is undoubtedly one of the most exciting experiences on our Road to Lhasa itinerary.

En route, we will visit the Rongbuk Monastery which lies near the base of the north side of Mount Everest at an altitude of 16,434 ft andis often cited as the highest monastery in the world.

After exploring the monastery and getting back on the road, we finally arrive at Everest Base Camp where we will be greeted by the imposing presence of Mount Everest looming in the distance. The sheer magnitude of the highest peak in the world will take your breath away when you finally get to see it in all its glory.

After spending some moments here, we will board the bus to returnto Tingri where we will indulge in a scrumptious lunch and then hit the road again to drive towards Shigatse for an overnight stay.

The City of Chengdu

Today is all about visiting the top tourist attractions of Chengdu, starting with the famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

Whether it’s watching them munching on bamboo or playfully rolling around, nothing quite compares to the joy of seeing pandas up close, in their natural habitat. After spending some time with these adorable creatures, we will head to Wuhou Temple, dedicated to the legendary strategist Zhuge Liang. The temple offers a glimpse into the fascinating stories of China’s Three Kingdoms period. Walking through its peaceful courtyards and halls, is an extremely serene experience where you will also learn the deep historical significance of the place.

In the evening, we will explore the lively wide and narrow Alleys, where the city’s vibrant culture comes to life. The streets are lined with charming old buildings, teahouses, and local shops. A stroll through Jinli Street is a must—its colorful lanterns and bustling atmosphere capture the essence of Chengdu’s spirit.

As we leave the city behind, the road winds through rolling hills, lush green fields, and traditional villages. The smooth roads make for a comfortable ride, but the changing scenery keeps things exciting with every mile on this particular stretch of this China road trip.

As we venture deeper into the countryside, the towering mountains start to emerge, their peaks dusted with mist. The drive feels like a journey through time, with rural life unfolding along the way—farmers tending to their fields, small market stalls lining the roadside, and the occasional glimpse of ancient temples tucked into the mountainside.

The winding roads through valleys and across bridges offer a thrilling driving experience, especially as we climb higher into the hills to finally reach Guangyuan.

After a long driving day, we will indulge in some delectable dinner followed by an overnight stay.

Jianmen Pass in Guangyuan

As we hit the road to head towards our next destination, Xian, the countryside opens up around us—fields stretch out as far as the eye can see, with hills rising gently in the distance.

The roads are smooth, and the easy ride gives us a chance to truly enjoy the changing scenery, from quiet rural villages to rolling landscapes.

The rugged peaks and green valleys create the perfect backdrop, making every twist and turn on this leg of our China road trip feel like an adventure. With the occasional river crossing and a few quiet towns along the way, it’s impossible not to feel connected to the land as we roll through it.

As we near Xi’an, the energy of the city starts to build, and the contrast of ancient history with modern life becomes more noticeable. We’ve covered miles of stunning landscapes, but now, we’re on the edge of stepping into a city that holds centuries of culture and stories.

It’s an exciting journey that not only brings us closer to our destination but also gives us a deeper appreciation for the diverse beauty of China. The day ends with an overnight stay in Xi’an.

Bell Tower of Xi_an, China

Today is packed with a visit to the best places to visit in Xian, starting with the famous Terracotta Army Excavation Site. As soon as we step into the vast museum, we will instantly be surrounded by thousands of life-sized clay warriors, each one unique and frozen in time. It’s awe-inspiring to witness this incredible piece of history, knowing that these figures have stood guard for over 2,000 years.

Next, we head to the Ancient City Wall, one of the best-preserved city walls in China. Walking or cycling along the top offers a stunning view of the city, blending the old and new in a way that only Xi’an can.

After a full day of exploring and unforgettable experiences, we return to our hotel and retire for the night.

Emperor Qin_s Terra Cotta Army, Xian

We leave Xi’an behind to head towards the ancient town of Pingyao where the drive offers a smooth and scenic drive through rural China. As we leave the bustling city behind, the road stretches across vast plains and through small villages, where time seems to slow down.

The closer we get to Pingyao, the more we’re transported back in time. Known for its well-preserved ancient architecture, Pingyao feels like stepping into another era and is one of the best places to visit in China. After checking into our hotel, we’ll take a leisurely stroll through the town’s narrow streets, where the centuries-old buildings, cobbled paths, and traditional shops create an atmosphere that’s both nostalgic and charming.

It’s a perfect place to soak in the history and culture of old China, offering a taste of life from centuries ago.

Walking through its grand gates, you will be transported to an era of emperors and dynasties. The intricate architecture, sprawling courtyards, and richly detailed halls tell stories of China’s imperial past, making this Beijing tour a journey through history.

Next, we will visit the Temple of Heaven, a masterpiece of Ming-era design. Surrounded by serene gardens, this site was once a place of worship for emperors seeking blessings for a good harvest.

In the afternoon, we dive into the cultural heart of Beijing with a visit to the city’s historic hutongs. Wandering through the maze-like streets, we discover hidden gems like tiny shops, cozy teahouses, and friendly locals eager to share their stories.

After all the exploration, we will get back to our hotel for a scrumptious dinner followed by an overnight stay.

Tiananmen Square, Beijing

Our final day takes us to one of the world’s most iconic landmarks—the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. As we approach the Wall, we’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of the ancient structure winding its way across rugged mountains.

Built during the Ming Dynasty, Mutianyu is renowned for its strategic importance as a military defense and its stunning architectural features. With 22 watchtowers along its 2.5-kilometer length, it offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Wall, surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills.

In the evening, we will gather for a farewell dinner to celebrate our shared journey. It’s a night filled with laughter and heartfelt reflections as we relive the highlights of our China road trip—from the roads we conquered to the friendships we built along the way.
