Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha

Today is going to be the beginning of one of the most memorable adventures of your lives. As soon as you reach Tanzania, you will be transported into a world of its own. Your Tanzania trip begins as soon as you touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport, after which you will be transferred to your hotel in Arusha. The drive from the airport to your hotel will take over an hour, so sit back, relax and soak in the sights, sounds and smells of Africa. You will be briefed in detail about the trek to Mt. Kilimanjaro, followed by a question/answer session to clarify any doubts or questions you may have about your curated travel journey. Accommodation: Hotel

Day 2

Machame Camp

After a hearty breakfast, reach Machame Gate from where the hike for Kilimanjaro trek will begin, along with a guide, porters, and a cook. And the best part is they all will be taking care of your needs for the next seven days trekking with you to Uhuru Peak – the roof of Africa! The drive through coffee farms and villages to Machame Gate takes about an hour but will leave you with impressions of a lifetime. Your halt of the day will be at Machame Camp. On this day, you will hike through the moss-covered trees of Kilimanjaro. If the weather is clear, a breathtaking view of surrounding area of the Kibo Peak will greet you. What a way to end the second day of your Tanzania trip! Hiking time: 6 – 7 hours Ascent: 1200 m Max. altitude: 3000 m Accommodation: Camping

Day 3

Shira Camp

Although considered the easiest day on the Machame Route, today’s trek involves several uphill sections. Drink plenty of water as the hike can be dehydrating on a clear sunny day. There are several viewpoints on the way from where you can see the plains and forests below and Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks above. As you gain altitude, you’ll notice the changing vegetation which feels like you are passing from one movie scene to another! After a fulfilling lunch, climb the famous Shira Plateau formed by Kibo Lava. Notice that Kibo lies to the West and Mount Meru to the East. Continue to Shira Camp where you’ll relax for the rest of the day. Have a good night’s sleep to wake up fresh and start checking off your personalized itineraries Tanzania checklist. Hiking time: 5 – 6 hours Ascent: 850 m Max. altitude: 3850 m Accommodation: Camping

Day 4

Barranco Camp

You will have gotten comfortable with the daily schedule of climbing, camping, and food as you get closer to the summit. Although this day ends with an elevation gain of only 110 m, you will have climbed 690 m to a height of 4530 m before beginning your descent towards Barranco Camp by early afternoon. This day is crucial for acclimatisation. After breakfast, you will start hiking East on the Shira Plateau before reaching the important junction for the Shira and Lemosho Routes. Continue through the barren landscapes and by afternoon, reach the highest point of the day before descending to Barranco Camp. This camp is considered to be one of the most scenic campsite on this route, perhaps one of the many memorable moments that’ll enhance your curated travel experiences on this trip. Hiking time: 6 – 7 hours Ascent: 750 m Descent: 650 m Max. altitude: 4600 m Accommodation: Camping

Day 5

Karanga Valley

Day 5 of your Tanzania custom tour package begins with a wholesome breakfast. Then head towards Karanga Valley. You’ll be hiking for 1.5 hours on the Barranco Wall. Climbing this wall is a bit technical and the hardest part of the entire trek but once you cover it, that feeling of being on top of the world, it’s totally worth it! You might be required to crawl in some places using your hands to pull your body up, thrilling much? Don’t worry, your guide will help you climb the wall, and make sure you land comfortably on top of the wall. After that, make a short descent into the beautiful Karanga Valley that’s filled with lush green plantations. We generally camp on the ridge above the Karanga Valley as it allows for better acclimatisation and is one of the most comfortable and scenic spots in the region. Hiking time: 4 hours Ascent: 260 m Descent: 280 m Max. altitude: 4210 m Accommodation: Camping

Day 6

Barafu Camp

Day 6 of your Tanzania customized holiday package trip will be unique and rewarding in its way as we begin the hike to Barafu Camp soon after breakfast. On the way to Barafu, view several of Kibo’s Glaciers and trek through the junction that connects the descent route, Mweka, with the Machame trail. Today’s trek will be a feast for the eyes as you will cross the Heim, Kersten and Decken Glaciers. Although the trail to Barafu Camp passes through an alpine desert with little vegetation, Barafu Camp offers stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. Even though today’s hike is not too long and you should arrive at our campsite by early evening, try sleeping soon after dinner to wake up before midnight for the final summit hike. But don’t blame us if the thrill of this upcoming adventure keeps you awake! Hiking time: 3 – 4 hours Ascent: 670 m Max. altitude: 4600 m Accommodation: Camping

Day 7

Mweka Camp

Around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. For the next six hours, you will hike using the light of your headlamp. The ascent to the crater rim is the most challenging part of the entire trek. The trail is very steep until you reach the crater rim at Stella Point. Despite the distance being relatively short, the progress will be slow as the oxygen level is comparatively less than at the sea level. Uhuru Peak offers a unique satisfaction and usually provides a release for a surge of emotions! The hike from Stella Point to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and is not very challenging. Upon reaching Uhuru, soak in the feeling of reaching the highest point of Africa before starting the descent towards Mweka Camp! Hiking time: 14 – 16 hours Ascent: 1295 m Descent: 2795 m Max. altitude: 5895 m Accommodation: Camping

Day 8

Arusha

It is time to head back into civilisation after having climbed the highest mountain in Africa! The final descent takes you through the lower section that quickly turns into a rainforest. An easy descent will bring you to the end of your Kilimanjaro trek as you reach the Mweka Gate where a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to the hotel. Check into a luxurious, comfortable, and cozy hotel, take a much needed hot shower, relax and spend the rest of the day at leisure after conquering Mt. Kilimanjaro, like a boss! If you are going on the safari over the coming days, get ready to wear your safari hats to embark on yet another adventure. If not, we will make the necessary arrangements to have you transported to the airport for your flight back home. Hiking time: 3 – 4 hours Descent: 1300 m Max. altitude: 3100 m Accommodation: Hotel

Day 9

Ngorongoro

After witnessing nature’s magnificence from the towering peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro, it is time to experience the wilderness of Serengeti National Park. You would never have appreciated spending a night in a comfortable, cozy, and luxurious room as you must have on your last night! Treat your taste buds to a delicious breakfast before heading towards the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s best-known wildlife-viewing areas. The crater is about 20 km wide and is one of the largest calderas in the world. Within its walls is a variety of animals and vegetation including grasslands, swamps, forests, salt pans, and a freshwater lake. It is home to rich wildlife which includes lions, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, Thomson’s gazelles, zebras, and reedbucks. Spend the night in a luxury lodge located on the edge of the crater. Serengeti National Park

A day in the wild in Serengeti National Park is one of the most sought-after wilderness experiences in the world. You get to witness first-hand the beautiful creations of mother nature in all its glory. After breakfast, you will depart from the lodge in Ngorongoro Crater and head towards Serengeti National Park. You will be rewarded with never seen before wildlife roaming around freely without any care in the world. The park is famous for the annual migration of wildebeest herds in search of better grazing. The park is also renowned for sightings of lions, cheetahs, large herds of zebras, giraffes, impalas, warthogs, and various birds. After a full day game drive-through Serengeti National Park’s vast plains, you will return to the lodge in the evening and enjoy a lavish dinner. Accommodation: Hotel

Day 12

Lake Manyara National Park

After a magical previous day, you will wake up feeling content and satisfied, with a smile on your face, like you’ve woken up from an amazing dream, only to realise that you’re actually living it! You will pack the cars and head out of Serengeti National Park towards Lake Manyara National Park, where a game drive and a Treetop walk awaits you. Visit to Lake Manyara National Park is a unique trip in its own way. It offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides.
